Hedging and Topiary
The Big Bamboo Garden Company offers a large range of high quality hedging. The bare-root and root-ball season runs from mid-September to mid-March. This is by far the best time to buy and plant hedging. Not only are the plants much cheaper this way, they stand a much better chance of establishing well before the growing season begins.
Topiary shapes are available year-round as they are usually container grown.
The range of hedging available includes:
- Buxus sempervirens – Box. Evergreen, low growing. Ideal for low hedges and growing into topiary shapes
- Taxus baccata – Yew. Evergreen, ideal for larger hedges and topiary shapes. Not suitable for near livestock, children or pets as the needles are poisonous. Small plants are supplied bare root, larger plants will be root-balled
- Prunus laurocerasus ‘Rotundifolia’ – Laurel. Evergreen, quick growing with large glossy leaves. Grows well in shade. Tolerates hard pruning. Usually sold root-balled
- Carpinus betulus – Hornbeam, semi-evergreen. Ideal for tall formal hedges and pleaching. Holds its leaves after they turn brown into winter. Usually sold bare root
- Fagus sylvatica – Beech. Semi-evergreen. Available in copper or green form. Ideal for formal hedges in all aspects, as well as pleaching
Many other varieties of hedging are available, including privet, hawthorn, blackthorn, buckthorn and hazel.
No-obligation quotes are given on all hedging enquiries. Plants can be sent all over the mainland UK via courier or direct from us, so distance is usually no object.
