The bare-root and root-ball hedge planting season runs from late September to mid-March. This time of year is by far the best time to buy and plant hedging. Not only are the plants much cheaper and of higher quality than container grown plants, they will establish their root systems much better, before the growing season begins.

Delivery of all plants is available throughout the UK. Wherever possible or practical I prefer to bring the plants myself using own transport to ensure a high level of service and quality. Please enquire for delivery prices. This is usually calculated as an approximate cost in fuel one way and some allowance for wear and tear on the delivery vehicle (or vehicle hire where necessary).

The range of hedging available includes (but is not limited to):

• Buxus sempervirens – Box
  Evergreen, low growing. Ideal for low, formal hedges and knot gardens.
• Taxus baccata – Yew
  Evergreen, ideal for larger hedges and topiary shapes. Not suitable for near livestock, as the needles are toxic. Yew is the finest hedging plant available in many people’s opinion.
• Prunus laurocerasus ‘Rotundifolia’ – Laurel
  Evergreen, quick growing with large glossy leaves. Grows well in shade. Tolerates hard pruning. Great for large, coarse boundary hedges.
• Prunus lusitanica ‘Angustifolia’ – Portuguese Laurel
  Superb evergreen hedging plant. Slightly slower than common laurel and with a much darker green leaf. More suited to smaller more formal hedges and great in shadier areas.
• Carpinus betulus – Hornbeam, semi-evergreen
  Ideal for tall formal hedges and pleaching. Hornbeam holds its leaves after they turn brown into winter. Usually sold bare root for plants up to 1.5m, then root-balled for larger plants. Plant double row for extra density.
• Fagus sylvatica – Beech, Semi-evergreen
  Similar qualities to Hornbeam but with a slightly larger, glossier leaf. Also available in Copper beech with a purple leaf, although they are currently in short supply. Ideal for formal hedges in all aspects, great for tennis courts and formal hedges to be maintained above 1.5m. Plant double row for extra density.

The Big Bamboo Garden Company is not currently registered for VAT so prices are final.

Plants will not be delivered until paid for in full (unless cash on delivery). Cheque payments must be made and cleared in advance. Credit and debit cards are not accepted. I can accept Paypal payments.

There is no guarantee or warranty with any plants supplied, however The Big Bamboo Garden Company does use discretion when hedging plants fail and will often replace losses of up to 5% of the total number of plants supplied if it can be proven that they failed through no fault of the customer.

Minimum order value for root-balled hedging plants is £650 (excluding delivery).
